Vishnu the Medic

Vishnu was brand new to Camp Kooch in 2023 and came in as one of the camp’s medical staff alongside of Eli. Vishnu is set to be the head Medic in 2025 and has had a blast working with Mick and Eli:

Eli Fulton:

I had the privilege to work alongside Eli Fulton in the Camp Koochiching infirmary during the summer of 2023. It was my first year working at the camp, and I felt very out of place when I initially arrived. Eli recognized this and went out of his way to help me feel included in camp culture and activities by taking the time to explain aspects of the camp and connecting me with the staff. Eli’s thoughtfulness through this action is something I am personally grateful for since it allowed me to feel welcomed into the community, and it is a part of his character that is easily translated into the work he does. While at camp, Eli’s actions were always directed to ensuring the kids felt comfortable and appreciated, which he showed through his thoughtful gifts to his campers during Friendship dance or through the friendly conversations he had with the kids when they visited the infirmary. Eli’s curiosity is another character trait I would like to highlight. During our time together in the infirmary, Eli would always strive to learn more about the work he was doing and the thought process behind treatment plans. His inquisitive nature reflected in the numerous questions he had, which in turn helped shape my thought process while in the infirmary and broadened my perspectives. Eli’s consideration for others and inquisitive nature is something I strive to replicate in my own personality, since it not only would help me become a better doctor to my patients but also become a better person overall

Mick Geehan:

I have had the pleasure to work with Mick for the past two summers at Camp Koochiching. Even though we haven’t worked closely with each other due to both of us working in different areas of camp, my interactions with him taught me that Mick is a person to be admired. The reason behind this is Mick’s constant “How can I improve this” mindset. In the past two summers, I have watched Mick take on numerous roles, such as Head of Evening Program, Head of Waterfront Safety, and as a counselor for the Intermediate camp. In each of these, I have watched how Mick has innovated,  through his reimagination of how a swim test should be held, the effort he places into creating large-scale camp events, and the individual connections he makes with his campers to improve their character. In each of these, Mick’s improvement-based attitude is clear, and is something I strive to apply in my own life. Regardless of how important a task may seem, Mick always gives 100% effort and seeks to improve and innovate what he is working on.
